I work with a ton of founders and a common question I get asked is how often people should be posting on social media.

This is always a hard question to answer for a few reasons: number one being you can’t build a business if you spend your entire day posting on the web.

“But Alexa, that’s what you do!”

Yes, you’re right. But want to know my secret? I type so fast that I can put out 20 posts in about 10-15 minutes, sometimes even less, that it’s not a huge amount of time in my day to do this. Now that I’m building a new business, I’ve got to be extremely diligent with my time to make sure I can maintain my existing business and build this new one. I’ve been doing most of my social media work in the morning or during spurs throughout the day whenever I take a break on my normal work load.

It is so important to find the perfect posting schedule on social media. Keep these concepts in mind when figuring out yours:

  • Workload: Don't put too much on your plate, especially if you’re doing all this yourself. If you can’t keep up with it, it’s not worth it.

  • Platform: Different platforms require different schedules.

  • Consistency: None of this will look appealing if you don’t have a consistent brand. Think about your voice, your tone, and your audience. Keep these aspects consistent in EVERY post.

  • Style Variety: Don’t post the same kind of post every time. Use videos, images, text, polls, Q&A’s, and more to keep your audience engaged.

  • Content Variety: Promotions for products, community engagement, & company behind-the-scenes are 3 great post styles.

  • Data: Your biggest asset going forward. What posts get clicks? Follows? Replies? Eliminate the ones that don’t.

Below are breakdowns for different social media sites, take these into account and tweak them as they apply to you and your brand.

𝕏

A fast-paced, easily scrollable website needs lots of posting to avoid getting lost in the shuffle.

  • Frequency: At least one post daily, I really recommend 2 or more.

  • Variety: Talk about products, personal anecdotes, trending topics.

  • Avoid: Really lengthy posts (make a thread instead!) and re-using Instagram posts on this platform.

People that follow you want easy to read, mobile-phone oriented information. Pay attention to who your audience is here (age range for FB is a little older) and tailor your posts to that market.

  • Frequency: 3-5 posts weekly

  • Variety: Photos, videos, infographics.

  • Avoid: Long text, too many text-only posts, embedding too many links.

A great hub for a lot of your posts. Can re-use these posts on FB/link the pages for easy transfer.

  • Frequency: 3-5 posts weekly

  • Variety: Photos & videos

  • Avoid: Lengthy captions, too many words on videos, poor quality photos
