How to Cold Call Like a Pro⚡
Hey Fearless Friend!
Today on Stay Fearless or Die Trying:
Cold Calling Dos and Don’ts
Fearless perks of the week!
Y’all know I’m the cold-calling QWEEN!
I sing it from the rooftops. Call, call, call!! You have no idea what opportunities you’re missing by not putting yourself out there. It is so important to reach out and try to grow.
From cold calling and emailing I’ve:
closed my biggest client
got my speaking gig at HARVARD in October!
gotten over 80% of my brand deals
gotten free flights, hotels, and MORE.
Here’s my fearless Dos and Don’ts for cold calling:
Do: Make an Impression
Many people don’t understand this, but it’s why so many cold calls fail. You have about TWO SECONDS to make a great impression on a cold call.
In those two seconds you have to:
Prove your value
Keep their attention
Which first line to an email would hold your attention more?
My name is Alexa Curtis and I am interested in working for your brand. I think I can be an asset to your company.
Hi, I’m Alexa Curtis, a former Radio Disney Host and entrepreneur working with hundreds of clients on growing their brands. I’ve got three killer ideas to help you boost revenue and grow your market.
See the difference? One is basic, bland, and almost timid. The second? Badass, fearless, and straight to the point.
Don’t: Talk too much about you
An solid way to get the person on the other end of the phone to be bored? Talk too much about yourself. ABORT this mission!
You’ve introduced yourself and given a short resume boost in that first line. Now sit back and let THEM talk! The best way to do this? Ask questions. Prove your worth by showing them you value the company, their goals, and interests. Not just a generic “What are your goals?” question, but the ever-important FOLLOW-UP question to show you’re paying attention.
Ask:
What is the company looking to achieve with the latest marketing campaign?
AND FOLLOW UP WITH
What makes it difficult to achieve this?
Ask:
What demographics does your brand seem to connect with the most?
AND FOLLOW UP WITH
Why do you think that is?
Do: Make a connection
The two tips above all come down to one thing: connection. You’ve made an impression, you’ve shown your interest and value which all drive toward the goal of connecting with the potential client.
You’ve got to build trust and a rapport so that by the end of the call they’re scrambling to find a way to keep you on board with their ideas, instead of the other way around. This is the hardest but most essential part of cold calling. You can have a great intro, you can ask questions, but if you aren’t personable and connected with who you’re talking to they’ll never be interested.
Remember, your goal is getting them to think.
They need X because of Y and you’re the missing piece.
The longer they interact with you, the more chances you have of building rapport.
And if you start building rapport, you'll start building trust: that's what you need to make sure you can help someone and have them buy what you’re selling.
