3 Ways To Fearlessly Overcome Setbacks⚡
Hey Fearless Friend!
Today on Stay Fearless or Die Trying:
Alexa’s tips on overcoming setbacks in business
Fearless perks of the week!
It’s the bounce back that matters.
Celebrating business successes is important, no doubt. If you keep pushing forward without recognizing your achievements, burnout can come fast. But the real strength lies in overcoming challenges. Since starting my business, I’ve enjoyed many successes, but I’ve also faced my share of setbacks.
Read on for a helpful acronym to change the way you view setbacks.
1. Embrace the power of “No”
How to handle ghosting in business- this weeks LinkedIn live with host Maartje Bakker.
I say it all the time when talking about cold calling, cold pitching, and networking, rejection is part of the game.
When I hear the word “no” here’s what I do and how I feel:
Not yet (them): It’s not the right time for this proposal. The company you’re pitching to doesn’t have room for you on their team right now, or they don’t have the budget for your services. The “No” really means “try again later”
Get an immediate yes. I’ll go and find someone to get a coffee with or who will become a future guest on my podcast to get my confidence back up.
Not yet (you): Your brand isn’t in the place it needs to be to provide what they need from you. Take this as an opportunity to revise your plans to get your business on track to be that person soon. I find this extremely annoying when people or brands tell me this because it’s impossible to not take it to heart.
BUT, that’s why you should go and get a fast yes to move on and forget you were just rejected.
3 ways to overcome rejection with cold calling or sales 👇
1. Ask why you were rejected: you’ll realize it’s never personal in business. 99.9% of the time it’s due to timing or money.
2. I always like to have a yes I can guarantee anytime I’m rejected. For example, if I cold… x.com/i/web/status/1…

2. Pretend it’s not your business!
A great way to reframe a setback is by looking at it from a different perspective. If you came across this issue in another business, how would you react? This is great because:
Your business is your baby. I know, it’s hard to be objective when you’re so involved.
You can suggest solutions in a detached way. How would you help a fellow entrepreneur who was having this setback? What feedback would you give?
You can ask for help. A great way to start this process is by asking a friend for insight. What are they seeing that you’re not?
3. Setbacks= SHIFT.
I have created this acronym for myself every time I encounter a setback. It’s important to SHIFT every time something comes up. Now you can use it too!
S: See the Opportunity- Every setback is a chance for growth, for change. Take the setback for what it truly is, an opportunity to get you closer to success.
H: Heal and Reflect- Setbacks hurt. Whether financially or emotionally, take time to lick your wounds and reflect on what happened. Could this have been prevented? Hindsight is 20/20. Don’t forget to be kind to yourself as you process.
I: Initiate Small Win Protocol- “Small Win Protocol” is my favorite way of getting back into the game. Create little, reachable goals for yourself that will motivate you to keep chugging along toward success.
F: Focus on the Future- You took time to heal and reflect. Don’t dwell on it! Remind yourself why you’re on this journey in the first place.
T: Trust the Process- Success will come. So will setbacks. Trust yourself, trust your gut, trust that it will work out if you work it.
Since I’m so public with my business journey, some of you have seen in real time the setbacks that I’ve encountered. But you also see that I always pick myself up, brush off the dirt, and get back at it ASAP.
That is the most important lesson of setbacks: to be scared of the fall but to stay fearless and do it anyway.
