3 Reasons Your Idea Won't Scale⚡
It takes more than big dreams
Hey Fearless Friend!
Today on Stay Fearless or Die Trying:
3 Reasons Your Idea Won’t Scale
I’m speaking at Harvard on October 6th!
Fearless perks of the week!
Scaling is essential for growth.
You may have a great idea, a great product, and a great start to your journey. But you’re hitting a wall. You’re stuck at 100 paid subscriptions, you’re not gaining any followers, or orders have slowed down considerably. It’s time to scale!
Scaling is a concept where you level up your brand and help it reach a bigger audience, market, and customer base. Many people who start a business or brand forget that you have to invest in the growth of that business, and most of the time it doesn’t happen organically. It’s not enough to post on social media consistently or to just expect orders to grow over time.
But scaling isn’t as easy as just adding more products or services, or paying for ads on Facebook. You have to put the work in. Here are 3 reasons why your efforts at scaling might be failing you.
1. You can’t afford it.
One of the hardest parts of scaling is that it costs $$$. People say that once you make $1M-3M it’s actually harder to keep going because now you can do more but you need more money to keep growing. If you don’t have enough capital in your business, scaling can be near impossible. You need money to invest in marketing, to grow your team, and to optimize your business processes. This might require going into debt, seeking out investors, or waiting for income to come in from other avenues before you’re ready to scale.
Entrepreneurs have to be comfortable being on stage presenting or pitching investors and also be comfortable staring at a spreadsheet for hours, sending 100 emails and get rejected by 100 people.
The latter was me today, 3 cups of coffee in and a plethora of a million snacks… x.com/i/web/status/1…

2. You aren’t reaching out.
You can’t expect an idea to scale on its own. It takes a lot of reaching out to different groups to facilitate the growth. You need to be reaching out to related brands to see if you can do cross-promotions, people to see if they’ll try and review your product and, companies that need your services.
You know my drill. Don’t just reach out ONCE! Follow up, follow up, then follow up again. Make it clear that this is your passion and you won’t be satisfied with a simple “No thanks.” AND if it is a “No thanks” you need to re-wire your brain to hear that as “Not yet” and put in the work to be someone they want to work with ASAP. Ask the questions. “Why? Why not?” learn from their feedback. Then, call back!
I call back people who rejected or ghosted me in business. This is what I've learned about rejection and ghosting in business.
The reason I started calling people back was personal: I had countless times where I realized I'd only get somewhere by picking up the phone, even if it… x.com/i/web/status/1…

3. Your idea doesn’t make sense.
Your ideal business isn’t a Christmas list. It can’t be scrawled out ideas and desires that only Santa can understand. You have to be CLEAR, CONCISE, and CAPTIVATING. These 3 Cs are essential in developing your brand, your brand strategy, and making your idea interesting to consumers/investors.
CLEAR: Someone who looks at your social media, your website, or views your products should have a clear understanding from first glance as to who you are and what you do. Avoid vagueness and clutter.
CONCISE: You cannot have long paragraphs in your social media bio, homepage, or product links. The longer the chunk of text, the quicker people will get disinterested in it.
CAPTIVATING: Every piece of content you put out needs to have the viewer saying WOW! If it isn’t motivating, interesting, or necessary, eliminate it!
Which account would you rather follow?
Clear. Concise. Captivating. Professional. | Busy. Wordy. Jumbled. Unprofessional. |
